"I’d rather go to a store and look at the clothes than go to a gallery and look at the art. You can touch the clothes, you can even put them on!"

“Before I was a model, I didn’t even know what modeling was. I don’t think I’d ever read a magazine, and I was so shy I couldn’t talk to my friends on the phone … When I got scouted I said ‘no’ because I though modeling meant being a promo-girl or doing Playboy. I’ve always been into clothes and dressing up, but I never really knew that was fashion. Being a model forced me to talk to people and make friends.
Growing up my mum tought me how to dress. One of the things my mom drilled into me is not cutting my silhouette with colors, like if I’m wearing a white shirt I’ll wear white shoes to keep a continuous line. I’m short for a model, so I’ve had to think about making myself look taller. That’s really the only thing I think about. … I’ve never taken that long to get dressed, probably because I grew up with two brothers. I just had to put something on quickly because I’d get left behind if I was busy getting dressed.
I like to shop at flea markets and vintage stores. … Every single stitch is perfect. The beautiful fabrics and the stitching and the way it is made is really an art. That’s probably why I don’t buy anything that’s new — there’s nothing amazing about mass-produced things.
Every single thing I own is really sentimental to me. I could never throw any of my clothes out. I couldn’t wear someone else’s clothes because it doesn’t have the same meaning to me. Every single thing, I remember where I got it and the things that I did while I was wearing it. Whenever something happens I always remember the thing I was wearing when it happened. Even if it’s a bad memory, it’s still good to me. I’ll put something on and just remember. I’ve got some t-shirts that I sleep in just because I like where they came from.
I hate leaving clothes behind, so I find it really hard to pack…. Usually my boyfriend packs for me! I just lie in bed. He knows what I like, and he’ll fold it really neatly in my suitcase. We’ve dated for about a year — not that long — but long enough to make him pack for me! He dresses crazy. He wears a lot of those matching tracksuits in really bright colors or crazy prints. His job is being a clown, so he kind of dresses like one. He was born into the circus, and he travels across the world with his family. I can never tell him what to wear, but recently I’ve started trying to match our outfits. We look crazy.” – Zippora Seven to Shop Ghost

"I think the best dressed people are those crazy, eccentric old ladies. ... And the gypsies that live out in the desert. They spend the whole day dancing and smiling. They wear these amazing dresses and they don’t get dressed for anyone, except for themselves."
"Music inspires how I dress the most. Recently I started listening to heaps of old 1960s bands and that seeps into the way I dress and even the way I think. Traveling also inspires me. I just went to Japan, and I went out to the forest there where everything is so beautiful and small and delicate. In New Zealand I go sailing, and whenever I’m on my boat I sort of dress like a pirate."
"I love Miu Miu. I can’t walk past a Miu Miu store without stopping and looking at the clothes. I never really buy anything, but I do like going in there and looking at things. I’d rather go to a store and look at the clothes than go to a gallery and look at the art. You can touch the clothes, you can even put them on!"
